s you stand on the cobbled street of the Bailgate, you can’t help but gaze in awe and admiration at the site of the cathedral, with the towers reaching high into the sky and the splendid stone work standing proud for all to see.Lincoln cathedral can trace the origins back to William the Conquerer, and a benedictine monk named Remigius who was the first Norman bishop of Dorchester, but in order to consolidate Norman power in the north they transferred ecclesiastical power from Dorchester to Lincoln were Remigius was ordered to build a cathedral. The cathedral was completed in 1092 but Remigius died just before it’s consecration. The city of lincoln is steeped in such rich history, and it’s origins dates back to Roman times, and of course this makes it such a popular tourist destination. Lincolns high street, which is the main shopping precinct manages to blend in the old with the new, and you have such a diverse range of shops from the large to the small independents that Lincolnites really are spoiled for choice. Lincoln is proud to be the home of one of the top universities in the country, and with the student population growing rapidly the need for newer more modern buildings are even greater, and they are springing up all over the city.Lincoln is growing all the time and is now a very culturally rich city and offers tourists and residents a fantastic experience, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
